SHIRE!Hello to all horse fanatics!
I'm guessing by the lack of entries in the "Horses At Work" Art Contest that we've all been pretty busy over the New Year. Not only were there many holidays, but school and work might have captured our focus, too. There are only four entries! ~Chrisalis42 and *scenceable are each uncontested champions in their divisions, and are automatically declared winners. So, the real contest is between *Maeix2 and ~ArabianSpirit.
It's up to all of you to decide who shall take the Pleasure division title! You can vote by leaving a comment in this journal, or by submitting a devNOTE to HFC.
The next art contest will open soon after =Nyxen decides upon the theme.

Long has it been said that the dog is mans best friend, but if this is so, then the horse is surely mans most important friend. No other creature has been more vital in the development of civilizations. No other creature has played more roles within those many cultures. No other creature has worked so hard for the benefit of man. Walking steadily before a plow, herding livestock, and carrying produce from market, the horse has allowed us to expand our diets beyond that of the hunter-gatherer. From fleet messenger on missions of peace to courageous charger on missions of war to intrepid explorer on missions of discovery, the horse has allowed us to expand our horizons and branch into other lands. Whether drawing freight from city to city, drawing the first trolleys and omnibuses and taximeter cabriolets for profit, or drawing paying crowds into major sporting events, the horse has allowed us to expand our economy. Park and pleasure hack for jaunty equestrians riding to social events, delivery mount for parcels and notes, the muscle behind many mills, pack animal for hunters and trappers, even fashion diva for the aristocrats of yesteryear and more, the horse had countless occupations. Then the advent of mechanization in the 20th Century saw the horse suddenly fall obsolete in many industries where it was once indispensable, but even into the new millennium do horses have many vocations: police horse, search and rescue, hauling logs down from steep alpine forests, managing cattle, pulling light carts and carriages for tourists, and even assisting the disabled. It is hard, if not impossible, to imagine the growth of most civilizations without the aid of the horse.
Horse Fanatics Club's January 2008 art contest, "Horses At Work", is a tribute to humankind's most industrious co-worker. Let the horse awe inspire you to express your appreciation for all it has helped to accomplish for us, or our ancestors before us. Depict the horse hard at work in any one of its myriad occupations.

EQUINE TRIVIA: What is the primary difference between a perlino and a cremello?
However, it should be of a nature that you might find in an illustrated children's book. In other words, sexually oriented "furry art" is not accepted. There are many other clubs where sexually oriented "furry art" is more appropriate.
